The channel works consist of a diaphragm-wall enclosure that combines ground retention and the water channel in a single solution, aiming to optimise resources and reduce construction costs. The scheme is based on a compartmentalised central channel, where the lower compartment ensures the hydraulic performance of the watercourse, while the upper compartment is reserved for urban utilities and sewerage.
The design prioritises minimising excavation by raising the top slab so it can act as the direct base for the pavement, thereby avoiding embankments, vibrations and impacts on existing façades. Finally, to prevent differential settlement, articulated transition slabs connected to the upper structure are included, ensuring proper grade continuity and the stability of the built environment.
